Martha's Vineyard

One of my friends is spending the summer with her parents on Martha's Vineyard - so a group of us decided to go over and visit her for the day. We had 4 moms and 10 kids - 2 were age 8, the rest were under the age of 5. Yikes. We must be crazy! We were asked at one point if we were a pre-school on a field trip! HA! We told them no, we were just a bunch of insane mothers.

We drove down to Falmouth, MA to ride the ferry over to the island. But first we had to park and take a bus shuttle to the ferry dock. Then after we arrived on the island, we took a taxi to where our friend was. It was a bus, boat and taxi adventure trip!

They had amazing donuts on the ferry - must have been homemade, b/c they were huge. Zach's covered in the powdered sugar from his.

Once we finally arrived on the island, we bought some lunch and walked to a park to eat. This is Carrie and Michelle with some of the kids.

After the park, we walked down to the beach and let the kids play in the water. Z&E had a blast digging in the sand. Zach loved playing football with the older boys.

"We love the beach!"

Izzy kept freaking me out. There was a large sandbar on this section of beach, so the water varied from only 2-4 feet deep for a good ways out. Izzy kept going farther out and was swimming around in water at neck height! She didn't have her swim vest with her, so I was nervous she'd forget that she's used to having that support - so I kept telling her to stay where the water was waist high - but she wouldn't listen. She insisted she could swim on her own. Amazingly, she did just fine. She had a couple waves go up to her head, but she never freaked out and had a blast. I'm really impressed with how her swimming skills have improved this summer!

After the beach, we got ice cream before getting on the ferry to head back home. But this is my kids, they're always eating, so Emily had to have another snack while on the boat.

Watching more boats as we sail back.

Michelle trying to take a 30 second nap on the way home! This is how all the moms felt at the end of the day. We were EXHAUSTED! We all passed out early that night and slept like rocks. Somehow, we didn't have a single melt down from any of the kids - they all were so well behaved. I don't know where they get the energy. Overall, it was an awesome day. Perfect weather - high 80's and great friends... who could ask for more!
